In this intensive session, you will learn the five critical capacities (i.e., the "CRAFT") that all thoughtful teacher-leaders rely on to create positive change in their schools. The presenters will show how successful teacher-leaders establish a strong focus on instructional practices and serve as instructional leaders for their colleagues. Finally, you will learn how to use Strategic Teacher PLC Guides (designed in partnership with ASCD and 75 schools) to establish the culture and conditions for collaborative professional learning in your school.

Description: Co-teaching is one of the most effective service delivery options to meet the diverse needs of all learners in the general education classroom, given appropriate support. In this fast-paced, practical session, the presenter will incorporate effective communication techniques for optimizing each teacher’s expertise, the five co-teaching approaches to create an optimal learning environment for all students, and tools and strategies to plan together to protectively integrate specially designed instruction while addressing positive student outcomes. Take advantage of the best strategies, tips, and techniques for implementing the essential components of this shared teaching model. This session will excite and motivate you to take your co-teaching to the next level!

We invite participants to work with ASCD facilitators in an activity-filled challenge to identify and assess equitable teaching and student engagement practices in their classrooms and schools. In addition, participants will receive an overview of methods to support equitable instruction and create a personalized learning journey to begin tackling their particular challenges related to equity issues.
